Sir John Sinclair (1754-1835) was a Scottish politician and writer on agriculture and other topics.  Sinclair founded the British Board of Agriculture, and his letters to Washington discuss the board and other related topics of interest to both men.  The letters are engraved and printed to replicate Washington's handwriting.  Inscribed by Catherine Sinclair, authoress and the daughter of Sir John Sinclair, on the titlepage.
