Philip de Comines of Flemish stock. His surname was de la Clite, father and uncle were Chief Governors of Flanders. He spoke Italian, Dutch and Spanish, but had little Latin which he rued. He was a favorite of Louis XI. He married Helen of Montsoreau. He dies on Oct., 17, 1519 at his home, Argenton at the age of 64.
