A very early image of tennis in the United States, captured just four years after the first U.S. Natonal Men's Singles Championships (now the U.S. Open) was held in Newport, Rhode Island. The pastoral image is of unidentified members of the Earle party at Bullon Woods, captured in between tennis sets.
