Much of the correspondence relates to the Writers Conference that Humphreys directed for Columbia University, authors sending in acceptances and regrets, some relate to grants and others from friends such as Leoni Adams Troy consisting of seven cards with notes (some additional leaves inserted) and two letters (one seven pages); a postcard from Babette Deutsch, two letters from Wallace Markfield, a lengthy autograph letter from Marguerite Young and an autograph note from Richard Elman concerning Paul Berman written on the verso of a typed letter from Berman to Elman; Among the correspondents writing to the Humphreys were William Gaddis, George P. Elliott, Grace Paley, Alice Morris, Roger Angell, John Hawkes (2), Jacques Barzun, Emanuel Celler, Evan Connell, Alan Dugan, Norman Podhoretz, Burroughs Mitchell, Mark Schorer, Marya Mannes (2), Stanley Kunitz, Bill Kelley, Gerald Sykes, Roger L. Stevens (3), Robert Deane Pharr (2), and Dave Ignatow. There are also letters from Robert Phelps, Ken McCormick and Curt Harnack.
