The author served in Canada in the suppression of the Rebellions of 1837-8. In this work, Levinge describes his military service and the rebellions, impressions of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, "A Race Through the United States" south to New Orleans, a meeting with Cherokee Indians, as well as a journey from Montreal through Upper Canada.
