Item #236376

French issue of the atlas volume of HOLLANDSCHE JAAR-BOEKEN OF RIJM-KRONIJK, the third edition (Leyden, 1699), and first illustrated, of Melis Stoke's (ca. 1235-1305) medieval chronicle. With 35 engravings after paintings in the Carmelite Monastery at Haarlem of medieval Dutch royalty, with the final plate a smiling Death.

The Leyden 1699 edition is relatively common, while this issue with French title page and no imprint, is scarce. We locate only one institutional copy worldwide, at the New York Public, which, like the present copy, omits Stoke's text and contains only the 35 plates. The French title suggests that the plates were issued alone.
