Rare image of the Caribbean-born dancer / choreographer, former member of the Katherine Dunham dance troupe, around the time of the staging of the first Calypso musical on Broadway, CARIBBEAN CARNIVAL choreographed by Marchant himself. Marchant, no doubt had danced in the previous show choreographed by Dunham, CARIB SONG (1945), with lyrics by Trinidadian author William Archer. No image of Marchant exists in the Library of Congress. This print is inscribed to Mauriber.
