Item #222423

A fine and rare image (there are none of her in the Library of Congress) of one of the the great American ballerinas. Adams danced major roles in works by some of the century's greatest choreographers, including George Balanchine, Anthony Tudor, and Jerome Robbins. Later in her career as teacher and scout for the School of American Ballet, Adams discovered and nurtured many younger dancers, her famous successor, Suzanne Farrell.

Adams has inscribed this print to Van Vechten's assistant, Saul Mauriber.
