In 1893 C.H. Metz began working forWaltham Company, early auto manufacturers; in 1909 he bought the company and instituted a plan whereby the public could buy 14 separate packages and build their own car. This approach was superceded in 1911 when the company produced a complete model utilizing an engine designed by a former Ford engineer. It featured a friction drive traznsmission and double chain drive, and its success made Metz the largest auto manufacturer in the US east of Detroit. After 1917 the public's interest in such cars faded, and the company was again taken over by Waltham. Full of compelling reason-to-buy copy, this is a classic of its kind.
