Kent (1737-1810) was a laid appraiser and agriculturist land valuer and agriculturist, who was first employed in the diplomatic service as secretary to Sir James Porter in Brussels.where he studied the husbandry of the Austrian Netherlands. Upon his return to England, Kent first published in 1775 his HINT TO GENTLEMEN, "which contained, among other valuable suggestions, some designs for labourers' cottages, which were greatly in advance of his time ... The book brought him employment on a large scale as an estate agent and land valuer, and he did much to improve English methods of land management ... " - DNB. The 1775 first edition was followed by editions of 1776, 1793 (with Supplement), and 1796.
