The King of France authorizes the implementation of the Decree of the National Assembly of 7 Avril, 1792, which ordered the goverment to liquidate its debt to Wigmakers, Barbers, and "Baigneurs-etuvistes", for a total sum of 661, 488.11 sous. Ironically, in this very month, the guillotine was introduced as a modern, humane means of execution; thanks to which, only a few months later, on January 21, 1793 the King himself would receive his own final haircut.
