Thomas Bradbury Chandler (1726-1790) was a Loyalist clergyman, devoted to the Anglican Church, who advocated the appointment of bishops for the American colonies. A debate arose between him and Dr. Charles Chauncy of Boston, which this publication pursues. On the approach of the Revolution, however, Dr. Chandler moved to England and stayed there for a decade. He was offered the bishopric of Nova Scotia, but, on grounds of poor health, declined the appointment. He returned to the United States in 1785, however, resumed his relations with the church in Elizabethtown, but was unable to engage in public service.
