George Kennan to Alexander Graham Bell
Nouveau Dictionnaire Anglais-Français et Français-Anglais.
Paris: Garnier Frères, n.d. [ca. 1910?].
Nouvelle édition Revue et Corrigée. 2 vols. Tall 8vo. George Kennan to Alexander Graham Bell. Quarter red leather and pebbled cloth, gilt spines. Preliminaries a little foxed, mild scuffing here and there, otherwise very good Item #18606
A fascinating association copy, inscribed on the flyleaf of each volume: "Alexander Graham Bell / from George Kennan / August 9, 1919." Kennan's early employment with the Western Union Telegraph Company, laying cable from Alaska through Siberia all the way to St. Petersburg, adds an uncanny resonance to this association with the great experimenter with telegraphy and inventor of the telephone. At the time of the inscription, Kennan was 74 years old; Bell was 72.
