An early American anti-slavery lecture prepared for the Independence Day celebrations of the Windham County Bible Society who requested it's publication. Phelps gives a brief synopsis of the history and development of man, his influence and also the progress introducing the Bible to the uneducated made by the various Bible Societies, but he is most vocal about slavery and the need to abolish it and provide the slaves with the rights they are given under the Declaration.
