A marvelous association inscription, inscribed during the war, reading:

"Dec. 13, 1943. To. Lt. Comdr. S.E. Morison, USNR - with kindest regards and best wishes, CW Nimitz, Admiral US N."

Morison was the official US Navy Historian of World War II, and author of the massive History of U.S. Naval Operations in World War II; and Nimitz was the top admiral during the war.
