Timothy Dwight (1752-1817), theologian and author, is best remembered for his presidency of Yale College from 1795 to 1817. Because of his absolute interest in and devotion to the school, Dwight was admired by students and faculty alike during his twenty-two year tenure, and, although a Connecticut Puritan through-and-through, he moved Yale into its “modern” era (DAB).
