Dante Gabriel Rossetti

Dante Gabriel Rossetti

1828 - 1882

Dante Gabriel Rossetti was an English illustrator, painter, poet, and translator. With William Holman Hunt and John Everett Millais, he founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848, which gave great inspiration to many artists in the Raphaelite movement, the European Symbolists, and the Aesthetic movement. He often closely entwined poetry and imagery in his works which are often defined as sensual and revivals of medievalism. His most notable works span from his poetry to illustrations and paintings such as: Ballads and Narrative Poems, Sonnets and Lyrical Poems, Lady Lilith, and La Belle Dame sans Merci
