Known as the father of the English language, Geoffrey Chaucer was an English author, philosopher, alchemist, and astronomer. His most notable works include The Canterbury Tales, The Book of the Duchess, the House of Fame, the Legend of Good women, and Troilus and Criseyde, all of which helped legitamize the vernacular of Middle English in England.
