Raymond Chandler was an American screenwriter and novelist. Chandler was a detective fiction writer and published seven novels and additionally short stories. His fame rests on the sequence of novels featuring Philip Marlowe, The Big Sleep (1939), his masterpieces are: Farewell, My Lovely (1940), The Little Sister (1949), and The Long Goodbye (1953).
