He was a prominent postmodernist author and wrote 18 novels and novellas, 6 collections of short stories, and 4 collections of essays. His most notable works include: Junkie, Queer, The Yage Letters, Naked Lunch, The World Hoard, The Soft Machine, Nova Express, The Ticket That Exploded, The Wild Boys, Cities of the Red Night, The Place of Dead Roads, and The Western Lands
