Robert Loius Stevenson

1850 - 1894

Robert Louis Stevenson was a Scottish novelist, poet, essayist, and travel writer known for his popular novels Treasure Island, Kidnapped, and Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Despite his celebrity during his own time, during the early and mid- 20th century his work was relegated to that of horror genres and children's literature. Not until the late 20th century was Stevenson's reputation re-appraised and he is now rightly regarded alongside the likes of Joseph Conrad and Henry James. His works remain popular worldwide.
