Original dark green blindstamped cloth, title with small vignette in gilt on upper cover. Some light rubbing and soiling, light discoloration of some pages, else Fine.Among the illustrations are the Society and Astor Libraries, the Free Academy, Baptist Tabernacle Church, Church of the Puritans, South Dutch Church, Synagogue, University Place Church, St. George's Church, Odd Fellows' Hall, interior of the American Art Union, National Academy of Design, State Armory (then referred to as “new,” interior of W. H. Disbrow's Riding School, the Bowery Savings Store, Berrians and adjoining Broadway stores, New York Bay cemetery.¶ The advertisements include those for false teeth, water purifiers, engraving (by Howland, the main artist of this work), bindings by Francis & Loutrel (binder of this work?), two different advertisements for Daguerrotypes, artificial legs and hands, Lee & Brewster's Print Warehouse and an advertisement with full-page illustration for Rich's Institute for Physical Training for Men and Women. The illustration shows their Exercising Room with exercises in process, a man using the horse, running , ropes and ladders, and stretching.¶ Among the listings of churches, associations, etc is the entry for the “United Ancient Order of Druids” llisting the officers, their meeting place as well as the location of their groves Sabin 54298.
