Original Tom Sawyer Illustration by Worth Brehm

Brehm, Worth

FINE ORIGINAL CHARCOAL DRAWING, “MY BOY, DON'T BE AFRAID OF ME”, FROM THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER, signed upper right

Brehm, Worth Image size 22 1/4 x 15 inches. , Ca. 1910. Published by Harper & Brothers in their edition of 1910. Fine condition.

A splendid drawing showing Huck and the old Welshman sitting in the latter's parlor at the moment Huck realizes the man has seen through his story of having seen a deaf and dumb Spaniard (in reality, Injun Joe). In pencil on the lower margin and on the back of the drawing are written the words, taken from the novel, “Huck had made another terrible mistake”--presumably the picture's intended caption. In the book, this has been changed to “My boy, don't be afraid of me”. A FINE AND DRAMATIC ILLUSTRATION TO TWAIN'S CLASSIC WORK
